Deuteronomy 8:1-5 MSG

Keep and live out the entire commandment that I’m commanding you today so that you’ll live and prosper and enter and own the land that GOD promised to your ancestors. Remember every road that GOD led you on for those forty years in the wilderness, pushing you to your limits, testing you so that he would know what you were made of, whether you would keep his commandments or not. He put you through hard times. He made you go hungry. Then he fed you with manna, something neither you nor your parents knew anything about, so you would learn that men and women don’t live by bread only; we live by every word that comes from GOD ’s mouth. Your clothes didn’t wear out and your feet didn’t blister those forty years. You learned deep in your heart that GOD disciplines you in the same ways a father disciplines his child. At the beginning of His earthly ministry Jesus quoted this text in Matthew 4:4, when He faced Satan’s snares in the wilderness. By doing so He made the knowledge of the Word a powerful weapon against the attack of the adversary. Because the parallel is used of Israel’s receiving the daily supply of manna, we know that the believer is to seek and feed upon a regular, daily portion of God’s Word. Psalm 119:165 adds that the Word of God has provided for us a solid base that will keep us firm and secure no matter what circumstance we face. 

Let no one suppose spiritual survival is possible for long without nourishment from the Word of God. First Peter 2:2 declares that God’s Word is as essential to the believer as milk to a newborn child. It is not an option! 

As you begin your ministry this year, are you drawing daily on the Word? It is a discoverable, definitive, discerning resource for meeting every challenge. Whatever you face this year, God’s promises are there, for you.
